Summer Day 15: Today I recycled!

Today we took in a whole bunch of stuff to the recycling centers. We had so many plastic bags, batteries, multiple cellphones, broken electronics, light bulbs and printer cartridges just piling up in the closet. It felt so good to dispose of these things properly. Allied Waste is our local recycling service and they have a great recycling depot where we look all of our stuff in to be recycled and properly dispose of.

The Allied Waste website is very helpful when it comes to where and what to recycle. Remember light bulbs and batteries do not belong in the trash! I also found that Earh911.com has a great website that allows you to find places to recycle in your area, and Thedailygreen.com outlines the differences between types of plastics.

Remember that  grocery stores such as Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Winco have collection bins for plastic bags.  Most air-filled packaging material (not bubble wrap) and plastics such as bread bags (any #4 LDPE) can be recycled there too!

Styrofoam and bubble-wrap are probably the two hardest things to recycle. Many places do not accept them, but a lot of places online can help you find places to take packaging peanuts and the like.

And for printer ink and toner can be recycled too at stores such as Staples and OfficeMax, and if you sign up, you can get rewards for recycling them there.
